Austrian Post adds 17,000 parcel pickup locations with myflexbox partnership

Customers in Austria will now have more locations to send and receive their parcels thanks to a new agreement between Austrian Post and myflexbox Austria. The postal operator is renting collection compartments in all 550 myflexbox stations across the country – equating to 17,000 additional parcel pick-up points – enabling almost 80% of all parcels in Austria to be received by parcel locker.

This cooperation complements Austrian Post’s existing self-service locations, which are available around the clock, by using the myflexbox compartments for ‘direct to locker’ delivery. This means that parcels must be actively ordered there or redirected digitally via the post app or on post.at; if the recipient is absent, they are not automatically deposited there. Pre-paid parcels with a return label or a post office parcel stamp can also be dropped off at the myflexbox parcel stations.

“Our cooperation with myflexbox brings a pick-up station within Schlapfen [slipper] radius a lot closer for many Austrians,” commented Walter Oblin, board member for letters and finance and designated general director of Österreichische Post. “We can fully utilize the capacities of our own self-service network and at the same time support the open approach of providers such as myflexbox by renting around 17,000 additional pick-up compartments at around 550 locations. In this way, we combine the best of both worlds to offer our shipping and receiving customers the densest and largest parcel station network in Austria.”

Jonathan Grothaus, co-CEO and founder at myflexbox, added, “This is a historic moment for myflexbox and open parcel stations across Europe. Our long-awaited vision is coming true: thanks to the cooperation with the post office, almost all parcels in Austria can now be processed in a myflexbox. All major parcel service providers are united under one parcel station roof and offer the full range of services, such as collection, shipping and returns. Austria is therefore the first country in Europe where all major parcel services are fully integrated in a single parcel station network.”

The 550 locations in all federal states across Austria will be converted in time for the peak parcel season at Christmas.
